The Atlanta Falcons had a practice that was open to the fans at Mercedes Benz Stadium last Friday, and while it was largely a positive evening, the team didn't escape unscathed as Punt Returner Avery Williams suffered an ACL injury that is going to cost him the entire season.
Avery Williams was injured on a play in which Drake London scored a TD, and was helped off the field and was taken directly to the locker room.
Avery Williams, who began his career as a cornerback, was switched to RB last season and had been taking some reps at both receiver and running back before the knee injury.
Williams, who's biggest contribution to the Falcons was as a special teamer, specifically in the role of punt returner, averaged a little over 16 yards per return a year ago with a long of 56.
Avery Williams was the top returner in the NFL in punt return average last season, a full 3 yards over the next closest returner.
