Falcons should get Bijan Robinson deal done now
Earlier this month, the Atlanta Falcons signed wide receiver, Drake London to a four-year, $141 million-dollar contract extension, a move which was expected to happen and made London the third highest paid wide receiver in the NFL on an annual basis behind Jaxson-Smith Njigba and Ja’Marr Chase.
And with the Falcons taking care of business with one of their young stars, arguably their most important player, running back Bijan Robinson, has been widely speculated to also receive a new deal, however, as Robinson is just entering his fourth NFL season, Atlanta should be in no rush to get a new contract done with their fourth-year running back, right?
“Mike, what’s this number going to be?”, 92-9 The Game’s Carl Dukes asked on Thursday as he and cohost, Mike Bell discussed the potential deal the Falcons and Robinson could come to terms to and whether or not, he would garner a contract which would make him the highest paid running back on an annual basis.
“More than Saquon Barkley, more than Christian McCaffrey,” Bell responded as he shared why he believes Robinson may top Barkley, who’s current contract has him at $20.6 million per year, and McCaffrey, who comes in behind Barkley at $19.6 million per year. “It’s going to reset the market,” Bell said.
To put things in perspective, the past three seasons, Robinson has 3,910 total rushing yards, 25 rushing touchdowns and 1,738 receiving yards with nine receiving touchdowns in comparison to Barkley’s 4,107 rushing yards, 26 rushing touchdowns, 831 receiving yards and eight receiving touchdowns in the same time span.
