“The business of football took place in front of Younghoe Koo,” Atlanta Falcons Radio Network play-by-play announcer, Wes Durham, said as he joined 92-9 The Game’s Carl Dukes and Mike Bell on Friday and discussed the news of the Falcons releasing the kicker, who has struggle of late and was replaced by Parker Romo last week in Atlanta’s matchup with the Minnesota Vikings.
With Koo’s release, the Falcons are moving forward with Romo as the team’s kicker, which they named the starter earlier on Friday and later announced they officially signed him to the active roster. “He got here because of the business of football and now he’s been waived because of the business of football,” Durham added, explaining how Koo’s departure somewhat mirrors his arrival to the franchise in 2019 on the heels of former Falcons kicker, Matt Bryant’s, struggles late in his career.
“This was a decision that had to be made,” Dukes said later as he and Bell continued with their thoughts on the Falcons moving on from Koo, which they agreed was the right thing to do as the kicker seemingly could not get back on track. “Yeah, we don’t need a soap opera, let’s make the move,” Bell said as he and Dukes believe it was best the Falcons did not drag out naming their kicker for the foreseeable future.
