The Los Angeles Chargers announced yesterday that they released five-time Pro Bowler and 2016 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Joey Bosa, and with the Atlanta Falcons still needing a pass rusher The Morning Shift talked about the possibility of the Falcons signing Bosa, and while they’re in favor of the team bringing in the former third overall pick they also believe Atlanta shouldn’t break the bank for the former Ohio State Buckeye.
“Sure, yeah I’m looking at every pass rusher, but what am I getting, how many games am I getting, and what is the price because I can’t pay $20 million dollars for no production. Also, what is his deal, what is he looking for, how much longer does he want to play? This guy he’ll turn 30, he’s not as old as you think, but he is not as young as you think.” Beau Morgan said
Beau finishes by saying that he would “love” to have Bosa in Atlanta, but that he would also rather have his teammate that is also a free agent in Khalil Mack.
Mike Johnson also says that he would “love” to see the Falcons sign Bosa, but only if they’re bringing him in as a designated pass rusher.
“I would love to have him, but I think he’s gotta be a DPR at this point, right, if you’re gonna pay him I don’t think he’s a three down player because you’re gonna risk the injury.” Johnson said
Last season Bosa played in 14 games, his most he’s played in since 2021, and when healthy, he has remained an effective pass rusher. In the Chargers' playoff loss to the Houston Texans in January, he had a team-high six pressures and one sack.
It all comes down to what type of deal he is looking for, and whether or not the Falcons think he’s still worth whatever that number is. If Bosa can’t be a three down player anymore, and he’s at the point in his career where he’s just a designated pass rusher that’s still a guy the Falcons could use because he showed last season when he’s healthy he can still cause havoc in the opponents backfield, but maybe he’s just not a guy the Falcons should go all in for.
