The NFL season has been relatively quiet in regards to major moves made by teams with the exception of the Pittsburg Steelers, who led the headlines two weeks ago after the long-awaited signing of Aaron Rogers and once again on Monday when they traded Minkah Fitzpatrick to the Miami Dolphins for Jalen Ramsey and Jonnu Smith.
On Monday, as 92-9 The Game’s Carl Dukes and Mike Bell reacted to the news of the Steelers and Dolphins trade and how the transaction reportedly now has the Dolphins contacting teams in regards to acquiring a new tight end to replace Smith, they agreed a Pitts to Miami trade should be considered.
And while there have been no reports of the Atlanta Falcons being a team contacted by Miami, the afternoon duo shared thoughts on why the Falcons should field offers for Kyle Pitts should the Dolphins show some interest with a reasonable compensation package.
“My first question is, is Kyle Pitts available? Meaning do the Falcons truly want to keep him or are they trying to move on from him,” Dukes said as he explained why he believes “a really interesting deal” may be the only way Atlanta would be willing to move on from the former first round pick if their intensions are to begin the season with Pitts.
And while both Dukes and Bell agreed Atlanta trading Pitts to Miami would make sense if what they receive in return benefits the team, they note the move could bring the Falcons another problem due to the talent on the depth chart at the tight end position.
“I will say this. If we ever move Kyle Pitts, Charlie Warner, then Felipe Franks technically is the second tight end on the depth chart so we’d have to go find another tight end ourselves. That might not be a problem Terry Fontenot is looking to create,” Bell said.
