The Atlanta Falcons quarterback position has been the source of a lot of controversy over the last few weeks. After the dismal stretch of play, some have started to call for a change under center. Despite the recent outcry, Raheem Morris has decided to stick by Kirk Cousins -- but is that out of self-preservation?
The Steakhouse heard some audio from Raheem Morris from earlier this week about how the team would be sticking with Cousins because he's "earned" that opportunity.
"How has he 'earned' it?" Steak asked Sandra about the state of the quarterback position and whether they should consider making a change. "He's thrown 15 touchdowns and 13 picks."
Sandra answered, "If you bench Kirk Cousins you are conceding that you made a bad decision, and that's representing the Atlanta Falcons organization. That's not saying Raheem, they are conceding that they were wrong."
Michael Penix waits in the wings for his opportunity to take over the position, and Morris has previously said he would be ready to go given the need. To this point, the head coach has not seen that need come up, despite the four-game losing streak that has caused the Falcons to slip below .500 on the season and out of the playoffs.
Now sitting at 6-7, the Falcons have four games left on the season with three of those coming against teams with three wins or less. There is still plenty of time for the organization to turn things around and the franchise has confidence that Cousins will. That leash, however, could continue to shrink if this streak continues against the dip in competition down the stretch.
