Georgia Tech turns to Scott Cross to lead basketball into new era
After moving on from Damon Stoudamire, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets announced the hiring of Troy’s Scott Cross, as the new head coach of their men’s basketball program, which has not reached the NCAA Tournament since 2021 and finished this past season 11-20 overall and 2-16 in the ACC which was good enough for dead last in the conference, causing them to not qualify for the ACC Tournament.
With the hiring of Cross, the Yellow Jackets get a head coach who led Troy to 20-win seasons the past five years, reaching the NCAA Tournament in the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 campaigns and has 350 career wins. On Thursday, Cross joined 92-9 The Game’s Carl Dukes and Mike Bell what he heard from Georgia Tech athletic director, Ryan Alpert, that led to his decision to take over the Yellow Jackets’ program.
“He’s committed to winning going to invest in the program,” Cross said of Alpert. “I talked with Rick Barnes and Dusty May, guys that have worked with him, they absolutely love him, say he’s one of the best athletic directors they’ve ever worked for,” Cross said of speaking with colleagues who had experience working with Alpert and praised the Georgia Tech athletic director.
“When it comes out of the mouths of guys that you know and trust, you get a vibe right away whether a person fits who you are and I think he definitely fits who I am and you can see that he had a vision and wants to elevate all programs here to the highest level. He’s a go getter, I know he’s going to continue to work and help us win and I’m excited to join forces with him,” Cross said.Scott Cross looks to lead Georgia Tech in right direction
