The Falcons DC search began with a few high-profile candidates like Wink Martindale, Lou Anarumo, and Steve Wilks, but the last two names tied to the Falcons interview process carry much less gravitas, Packers Pass Game Coordinator Derrick Ansley and Steelers Secondary Coach Grady Brown. The supposed drop-off in stature makes you wonder just how good the Falcons DC role looks to the variety of candidates.
"If you're one of these guys with a resume, like Wink Martindale, what's the pitch to come here? If you're an up-and-comer, sure," declares Andy Bunker. How good can the defense be quickly? Are they going to invest on that side of the ball, they never have."
While fans expect the Falcons to hire the best name available, what is the viewpoint from the other perspective? Do the pool of candidates for the Falcons Defensive Coordinator role feel like it’s the best gig they could possibly get? An experienced DC might pass while a young rising star might jump at the opportunity for a promotion.
