“There’s only one rookie that I can think of that there’s a ton of pressure on, and it’s not who you think it is for me. It’s not Bijan Robinson, yea it’s Matthew Bergeron.”
Beau Morgan’s reasoning for that statement is because he believes third round pick Zach Harrison will be allowed to come in and be a sponge with little expectations when it comes to on field production.
Morgan thinks Bijan Robinson obviously has expectations, being the eighth overall pick, but with all the other weapons on the Falcons offense Bijan won’t have all the eyes of the defense on him, so that takes pressure off him.
However, the Falcons second round pick, who they traded up to get, is not only expected to start out of the gate, but expected to start right away at a new position. “Matthew Bergeron has to really step up, change positions, earn a starting job, and be a dude on that offensive line.” Beau said.
The Falcons have been looking for their starting left guard of the future for what feels like five years now, and Matthew Bergeron has the expectation to not only be that guy, but to be that guy right away when that’s not even his natural position, that’s a lot of pressure if you ask me.
