In an era of an overload of sports documentaries, Neflix found a hit when they produced and released QUARTERBACK, a documentary series that followed Patrick Mahomes, Kirk Cousins, and then-Falcons QB Marcus Mariota during the 2022-2023 NFL season. On Thursday morning they announced a second season that will follow Joe Burrow, Jared Goff, and Falcons QB Kirk Cousins.
When Marcus Mariota was featured two seasons ago the dominant storyline was his struggles followed by his eventual benching and with Kirk Cousins being covered during the 2024-2025 NFL season, the dominant storyline will certainly be his eventual benching.
The series could provide a detailed look into what was and wasn't hidden from the Falcons during the stretch of games where Cousins threw 9 interceptions and just one TD before being replaced by Michael Penix. It's also likely that Netflix was with Cousins the night of the NFL Draft and could have his reaction to Penix being selected as well.
It's an interesting development for the Netflix Series as they were forced to introduce a similar series, RECEIVER, after having issues finding a trio of QB's who would agree to be followed during the 2023-2024 season. Look for Kirk Cousins and QUARTEBACK Season 2 on Netflix in July.
