Well, this is interesting.
The Patriots have obviously been heavily involved in Julio Jones trade rumors the last few days, and a semi-new report indicates maybe the wide receiver would welcome being dealt to the Patriots because of a certain someone on the roster.
Last week on NBC Sports Boston's Boston Sports Tonight program, Michael Holley indicated Jones would want to play with Cam Newton.
"You know who (Jones) really wants to play with? ... He wants to play with Cam Newton. He likes Cam," Holley said. "... The reason he’s on the trade market, his relationship with the Falcons is terrible. It’s bad right now. He thinks that Matt Ryan — because that was the other thing — he thinks Matt Ryan has lost a little zing on the deep ball.”
As of now, Newton is QB1 for the Patriots, but he will be competing with rookie Mac Jones and third-year quarterback Jarrett Stidham this spring and summer.
If Jones were to be traded it would not be until after June 1 as that is when salary cap benefits kick in for Atlanta.
