Earlier today The Morning Shift explained why they think Atlanta Falcons edge rusher/outside linebacker Za'Darius Smith will be more valuable for the Falcons as a run defender than a pass rusher especially while James Pearce Jr. is out.
“I think he really did a good job last year of playing the run well and not getting pinned and fighting across blocks and things like that and I think that’s where you’re gonna see his presence felt for this defense.” Mike Johnson said
The major flaw of the Falcons defense and one of the major flaws of the Falcons as a whole last season was their run defense, so if the three-time Pro Bowler can give them a boost in the pass rush and run defense category that would be huge for Jeff Ulbrich and this Falcons defense.
