Raheem Morris knows extent of 'importance' of his hire as Falcons' head coach

Raheem Morris is officially introduced as the Atlanta Falcons new head coach

On Monday, the Atlanta Falcons held their first introductory press conference to officially introduce new head coach, Raheem Morris, with general manager Terry Fontenot and team president, Greg Beadles on stage alongside Morris. And while CEO, Rich McKay was also in attendance, team owner Arthur Blank was absent due to a 'minor medical issue.' However, the show went own as Morris began to express his gratitude for the opportunity to become Atlanta's new head coach.

"Being a part of the Atlanta Falcons is absolutely outstanding," Morris said as he spoke of his relationship with the Blank family and the various members of the Falcons' staff. "It's so nice to come back and see familiar faces from when you were here the first time and to be able to meet some new people that you're excited to work with and you're really ecstatic to work with, that was such an awesome feeling."

As Morris continued with his opening remarks, he also expressed he was aware that taking over the head coaching reigns came with a level of importance not only to the franchise, but to the community of Atlanta.

"I want to let you guys know, I do understand the importance of being the first black coach in Atlanta history without an interim tag. I understand the importance of that for us, I understand that for the people before me, that people after me, the current people right now, I understand the importance of that and how important that is to this city, particularly where we are in the mecca of Black History Month," Morris added.
