With starting linebacker Leighton Vander Esch set to miss at least the next four games after being placed on injured reserve due to a neck strain, the Dallas Cowboys are bringing in some help to fill the void.
According to Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News, the Cowboys are "expected to sign" veteran linebacker Rashaan Evans after he and three other free-agent linebackers participated in a workout on Wednesday at The Star. The move will be completed if he passes a physical.
The other participants in the workout were Tanner Vallejo, Jordan Evans and Brandon Smith.
The Titans selected Evans in the first round of the 2018 draft out of Alabama, where he was a two-time National Champion and a first-team All-American.
After spending four years with the Titans, the organization elected not to pick up his fifth-year option, making him a free agent. He signed a one-year deal with the Falcons in 2022 and started all 17 games, totaling a career-high 159 total tackles.
He signed with the Eagles practice squad this offseason but was subsequently released three days later.
Evans has started in 67 of the 76 games he's appeared in, totaling 476 tackles, five sacks, two forced fumbles, two interceptions and five fumble recoveries.
