Falcons 'need to be better as an entire offensive unit,' says Arthur Smith

Atlanta Falcons head coach Arthur Smith joined Dukes & Bell for his weekly appearance and talked about why the team has to execute as a whole better on offense.

When asked if the team could improve protection schematically.

“Obviously we have a recency bias, New England and Tampa are two really good fronts and New England we got in too many obvious pass situations for multiple reasons,” Smith said. “Last week they did hit Matt too many times. But there was a couple of things we did schematically they got us on a one on one, one time there on a pick gain inside.

"To answer your question, yes we need to keep working and tweaking some things, which we’re doing to make sure we’re protected inside.”

Smith said the entire offense has to be better.

“The other thing too, it’s not just on the line, we gotta get open when we get man coverage, you’re not holding the ball an extra count, it all goes together," said Smith. "That’s your job as a lineman, when you give up sacks you’re gonna get the criticism and sometimes it’s well-deserved. But we need to be better as an entire offensive unit, and some of the third-down passing situations.”
