Falcons should trade Kyle Pitts before NFL Draft but it'll be easier said than done

The Morning Shift explains why trading Kyle Pitts before the draft is more beneficial to the Falcons than keeping him for a possible redemption season, but pulling off said trade will be easier said than done

The Falcons could save a good amount of money this offseason if they’re able to find a trade partner for Kirk Cousins. However he isn’t the only player the Falcons may look to trade this offseason.

Aaron Schatz of ESPN put out an article over the weekend where he suggests a bold move for each team to make over the next two months, and for the Atlanta Falcons he has the team trading Kyle Pitts. Earlier today, The Morning Shift explained why trading Pitts before the draft is more beneficial to the Falcons than keeping him for a possible redemption season, but also talked about how pulling off a good trade for Kyle this offseason could be easier said than done.

“There’s a reason why we don’t want to pay him $10 million dollars to be here, so you’re telling someone else to give you something and pay him that to take him. That’s what I try to make people understand it’s not so gift wrapped.” Beau Morgan said

The Falcons picked up Pitts’ fifth year option and now will have to pay him $10 million dollars unless he’s traded as Beau mentioned. Beau also pointed out the fact that if the Falcons want the best draft pick possible for this year’s draft in exchange for the former fourth overall pick the Falcons might have to be willing to pay some of the $10 million dollars that Pitts is owed next year.

“You might have to pay some of that when you trade him to get a better draft pick, which I would be willing to do to get a better draft pick, but the reality is is that we say these things like oh just trade him like it’s just a given that someone is gonna take what we don’t want.” Beau said

Mark Zinno believes the Falcons getting anything back for the four year tight end at this point is good, and thinks the Falcons front office should “stop doubling down on bad decisions”.

“Stop doubling down on bad decisions, just admit you were wrong, move on, and start fresh, like stop trying to make something work that doesn’t work. I don’t care if you get a fourth round pick for him, just get him out of here. Move on, it’s over, it’s done, kill it.” Zinno said

It would definitely be beneficial for the Falcons to trade Kyle Pitts, save $10 million dollars in cap space, and then just look elsewhere for tight end help, but again this might end up being easier said than done for the Falcons given Pitts’ underwhelming last few years of his career.
