The 2024 NBA Draft class is starting to get the label that it’s one of the worst, if not the worst, classes of all time. The Morning Shift had Bleacher Report lead scout and NBA Draft insider Jonathan Wasserman on and he explained why that’s far from the truth.
“It’s just harder this year to identify who the stars are going to be," said Wasserman. "Everyone compares it to 2013 when Anthony Bennett goes No. 1, you know there’s just not an obvious star, but there are going to be stars in this draft.”
In that 2013 draft Wasserman mentioned, Bennett was drafted No. 1 overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers and was a bust, but Giannis Antetokounmpo was drafted 15th overall and is now a two-time MVP and NBA Champion. Rudy Gobert was drafted 27th overall in that draft and he just won Defensive Player of the Year for the fourth time in seven seasons, and he’s a very important piece to a team that is currently in the Western Conference Finals.
To Jonathan’s point there’s talent in every draft including this one it’s just up to the Atlanta Hawks to find it.
