For the third time this season, the Hawks (8-5) will take on the Milwaukee Bucks (10-2) tonight as they look to put a disappointing loss to the 76ers in the rear-view mirror.
While there weren’t many, AJ Griffin’s performance off the bench in limited minutes was a bright spot Saturday night as the rookie out of Duke knocked down a pair of triples and posterized Joel Embiid.
"We put him in tonight to try and give us a spark and he was able to knock down a couple of shots, so we’ll continue to look at that,” head coach Nate McMillan said when asked about a potential increase in minutes for the 16th overall pick.
The last time the Hawks and Bucks met, Griffin poured in 24 points in 31 minutes in the absence of Trae Young, so could tonight be another heavy workload for the rookie? Andy & Randy think it should be despite a historical hesitation from McMillan to play rookies.
Griffin is currently averaging 12.1 minutes per game and 6.9 points per game while shooting 51 percent from the floor.
So far, Atlanta and Milwaukee have split the first two meetings of the season. In the Hawks' victory at State Farm Arena, Onyeka Okongwu was instrumental in limiting Giannis Antetokounmpo's production to 25 points. After missing the 76ers loss due to personal reasons, Okongwu will be back in the Hawks rotation tonight.
