A few minutes before the Atlanta Hawks eliminated the New York Knicks, the 76ers took care of business and advanced against the Washington Wizards, setting up a 2nd Round matchup between the two teams.
The 76ers had to eliminate Washington without their MVP-candidate Center Joel Embiid, who suffered a knee injury in the 76ers Game 4 loss.
Even without Embiid, the 76ers aren't a pushover, earlier this season during a 10-game stretch when Embiid missed with injury, Philadelphia went 7-3. Despite that stretch and including Wednesday's win without Embiid they are just 11-11 on the season without their star center.
Injury Expert Will Carroll, who joins John and Hugh every Thursday morning to break down the most impactful injuries across the sports landscape, spoke about Joel Embiid and what his status may be for the 2nd Round series between the Hawks and 76ers.
"He's got a torn meniscus and that's obviously problematic, but it'smore problematic for a big man," says Will Carroll. "There will be some instability, there will be some pain, but there's not really much they can do."
"How much is he going to be able to do in the next series is a real unknown. It's going to come down to how much risk Embiid and the 76ers are willing to take on, because this can get worse," explains Carroll. "He's gotta deal with it in-game, basically hope it stays in place. He's not going to play 30 minutes a game. I think they're going to try to buy them some rest, maybe bring them back for Game 2."
