NBA Hall-Of-Famer Tracy McGrady stopped by Dukes & Bell Wednesday to discuss his new documentary series “Bonded By Ball” as well as talk some hoops. McGrady discussed his faith in Trae Young to be the superstar piece the Hawks needs to contend.
“I think Trae is a good franchise player for the Hawks. I think what he’s been able to do in his young career is nothing short of spectacular.
I remember the run he had where they made it to the Eastern Conference Finals. I think he can be a point guard on a championship contending team if the right pieces are around him,” McGrady explained.
The Hawks continue to be the subject of recent scrutiny for their lack of aggression towards adding key cogs to their team in order to get back to resembling the squad that went to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2021. In addition, the club traded away longtime starter John Collins to Utah without gaining a player of equal value in return. It remains to be seen what moves GM Landry Fields and his staff will make before opening tip next season.
