Trae Young looks to take control of narrative, launches podcast

Following the trend of a handful of current and former NBA players, Hawks All-Star G Trae Young recently announced that he would be joining the “new media” movement and starting his own podcast.

On June 1st, the first episode of ‘From The Point’ was released on all streaming platforms. This new venture is a perfect opportunity for Young to pull back the curtain on some of the rumors and speculation that has dogged him over his first four years in the league.

Since he was brought to Atlanta in the historic draft day trade that saw the Dallas Mavericks swap Young for Luka Doncic in the 1st round of the 2018 NBA Draft, the 24-year-old has stepped into the forefront of the NBA with his fearless shooting, dynamic playmaking and his willingness to embrace the “villain” role he fostered during the Hawks epic 2021 playoff run.

His tenure in Atlanta hasn’t been without controversy though. Chatter about his clashes with former head coach Nate McMillan and chemistry issues with backcourt mate Dejounte Murray have hung over Trae’s head like a dark cloud the past couple of seasons. His leadership and maturity has been called into question on multiple occasions which has led to his father, at times, shutting out members of the local Atlanta media.

While it’s unlikely that the two-time All-Star will use this opportunity to air out his dirty laundry, one would suspect that this will be a great opportunity for Young to give his side of the story on certain issues and keep fans well-informed with insight about what makes the Hawks star tick.

The premiere episode features Trae reflecting on the Hawks’ season, the loss in the playoffs, his thoughts on the NBA Finals matchup and his friendship with Nuggets F Michael Porter Jr.
