Did Sunday’s win help the Falcons ‘reset’ and gain momentum

Steak Shapiro and Drew Butler share their thoughts on why the Falcons win over the Saints was a good win

While the term ‘much needed win” can be overly used, in the case of the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, the phrase held true in the fact that the 24-15 win over the Saints moved the Falcons to first in the NFC South and 3-0 in division play as well as helped them snap a three game losing streak. The return to action also saw the return of Desmond Ridder to the starting quarterback position, going 13-21 and finishing with 168 passing yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.

And as some may have viewed Atlanta’s win as somewhat lackluster, Steak Shapiro and Drew Butler both agreed on Monday that Sunday’s win was a good win by the Falcons. “They’re 3-0 in the division, now they’re on top of the NFC South and I simply said, now is the time for the Falcons to stack a win,” Butler said to Shapiro as referenced his comments to Shapiro early expressing his thoughts on Atlanta defeating the Saints.

As their conversation continued, Butler shared that he started to look ahead to Atlanta’s next opponent in the New York Jets and stated that he believes the Falcons will need to pick up a win in New Jersey on Sunday. “If they want to be a true playoff team, you got to win this winnable game,” Butler said in regards to Atlanta facing a struggling Jets team. As Shapiro and Butler’s conversation continued, Shapiro praised several Atlanta players for how well they played in the second half, especially on the drive that resulted in the final Younghoe Koo field goal.

“If you didn’t put that drive together, they were going to have one more shot at it and you did the opposite, you put it so it was a chip shot for Younghoe Koo. You pounded the football. Butler would later add that he believes the Falcons did exactly what they “needed to do coming out of a bye week,” and have placed themselves in  good position to “reset for their second half of their season, which is now under way on a good note”.
