After the Georgia Bulldogs defeated UAB 49-21 on Saturday, improving to 4-0 on the season, they entered week five of the college football season still atop of the rankings at No. 1. However, when looking at the Georgia schedule of opponents to this point, some may make a case that none of the Bulldogs’ wins merit them being worthy of earning the top spot in college football. In fact, on Wednesday, 92-9 The Game’s Jon Chuckery shared his thoughts as he asked listeners to chime in on whether Georgia’s No. 1 ranking is “because of what they have done over the last couple of years versus what they’ve done this year”.
As the evening host continued to share his opinion on the subject, he emphasized that to this point, Georgia has not had a win that could be considered one of the best wins of the season so far and teams like Florida State and Notre Dame have wins that are better than any on Georgia’s list right now. And while Chuckery admitted that he does believe the Dawgs deserve to be the number one team in the country, ha adds that he questions how the Dawgs will perform down the stretch of the season.
“Now, I do wonder if Georgia can roll through this regular season and stay the number one team in the nation all season long,” Chuckery said, however acknowledging that Georgia has a “wide, wide margin” in both of the AP and Coaches polls. Ultimately, while the evening host believes that Georgia has not truly faced a tough opponent, until they are beaten, they deserve to remain No. 1.
