When Georgia and Texas matched up in Austin almost two months ago the Bulldogs dominated the Longhorns, including the Dawgs defense absolutely terrorizing the Longhorns offense. It got to the point where Quinn Ewers was benched for Arch Manning for a period of time. In that situation, though, Manning didn’t make things any better.
However, in the rematch this Saturday in the form of the SEC championship game, Co-Owner and Publisher of Dawgs HQ Rusty Mansell explains why the Dawgs should be ready for a Manning package on Saturday.
“He’s not Haynes King, but I don’t think people realize how big Arch Manning is in person, and what type of athlete he is," Mansell said. "He’s got an elite arm, but this dude is put together, he is a big dude in person, and if i’m Sark and the two turnovers I had in the red zone last week I’m gonna put it in the hands of Arch Manning and give him the RPO option.”
Rusty also brought up the point that Georgia’s defense and pass-rush has been successful this season when it knows where the quarterback is going to be, and doesn't have to worry about a mobile quarterback. Rusty talked about how that was a big reason for Georgia’s success defensively when the Dawgs played Texas the first time.
“Georgia did not worry about Quinn Ewers beating them with his legs, you gotta add that element,” Rusty said.
Just like any defense, Georgia’s defense struggles with dual-threat quarterbacks. Arch Manning, unlike Quinn Ewers, is a true dual-threat quarterback, and that’s why Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs have to be ready and be prepared.
