College football fans from the Peach State received some shocking news that the annual Thanksgiving weekend matchup of between Georgia and Georgia Tech will be moved to Friday night, as reported by Yahoo Sports' Ross Dellenger. With the news breaking mid-segment on The Steakhouse, not everyone was thrilled about the decision.
"Any chance that [ABC] has to put Georgia on, they're going to," Steak said about the rumored move on Thursday morning. "But what's happened to that game is depressing. I mean, when I first moved here, I would fly back from [Boston] to be back for Georgia-Georgia Tech."
The Bulldogs took down the Yellow Jackets 31-23 last year to win their sixth straight game against their in-state rival, and 19 of the last 22 games. New Georgia Tech coach Brent Key wants that to change and promised that his squad would prepare for "365 days a year" to take back that rivalry.
"What's happened to that rivalry is sad, and that's Georgia Tech's fault," he continued. "Maybe Brent Key can step it up."
That's the juice this rivalry needs, according to Steak, in order for it to return to national prominence. In addition to what happens on the field, he thinks that getting it back into a primetime window on Black Friday could be an extra push to get it up over the top.
"By the way, Friday night lights in Athens? That's so great," she said about the change in date as she agreed with Steak.
Producer Garrett wasn't as thrilled.
"I'm going to come out and completely disagree. This is a disaster!" he said. "This is the quarterfinals of the GHSA state playoffs. Friday is for high school football and anyone who plays on college football on a Friday should be embarrassed."
The 118th edition of Clean Old Fashioned Hate will be the first non-Saturday game in Athens since these two teams played in 1994. The two rivals also faced off on Thanksgiving day in 1995 in Atlanta.
