Stetson Bennett's Heisman case stronger than you think

When the Heisman finalists were announced Monday night, three names on the list were met with general approval. One name, however, was met with a bit of confusion.

Caleb Williams in the current betting favorite. Max Duggan came on strong as the season went along. CJ Stroud was a Heisman finalist in 2021. It was Stetson Bennett that seemed like the curious selection, but he's also got as strong of a case to take the trophy home this year.

From a numbers perspective, Stetson holds his own against the other finalists. He's thrown for 3,425 yards, to go along with 20 touchdown passes versus 6 interceptions with a 68 percent completion percentage. He's run for another seven scores. Oh, and he's led UGA to the top spot in the College Football Playoff to go along with the SEC Championship.

When you factor in the numbers, his performances in big-time matchups against Tennessee, Oregon, LSU, and the success UGA has had this season, his current odds of +3000 seem like they are bit on the high side?

Plus, everyone loves the story of the underdog succeeding, and Bennett is that and more. From his initial stint at UGA as the walk-on QB emulating Baker Mayfield, to proving himself at Jones County Community College, to getting a scholarship back at UGA only to sit way down on the depth chart, to finally getting his full-time shot at the position in 2021 and leading the Dawgs to a national title, why not him? Seriously.

Why not Stetson? Steak and Sandra ask that very question on today's Steakhouse this morning. Sandra says that the real surprise would be Stetson finishing last, rather than higher. You can hear that audio below.
