As Georgia continues to prepare for the upcoming season all the talk around the team has been about quarterback Gunner Stockton. Should he be the quarterback? Has he earned the right to be the starter? Well, earlier today on The Morning Shift longtime college football writer Tony Barnhart joined the show and expressed his belief in the Dawgs redshirt sophomore QB, and explained why he thinks “Georgia has a lot more problems to worry about than Gunner Stockton”.
“To me Georgia has a lot more problems to worry about than Gunner Stockton at quarterback. I mean how about the fact that they haven’t had a 1,000 yard rusher since 2019, how about they finished next to dead last in rushing and couldn’t run the ball to protect the lead in the fourth quarter, what about 36 dropped passes which led the nation. I’m just saying there’s a lot more stuff to me going on at Georgia than it is the quarterback position.”
If Kirby Smart didn’t believe Gunner Stockton was good enough to be the starting quarterback on a national championship caliber team then he wouldn’t or won’t be the starting quarterback, so maybe it’s time to start giving Gunner Stockton more benefit of the doubt.
