Jalen Carter taking plays off isn’t something Tony Pauline sees when he turns on the tape, the NFL draft analyst at Pro Football Network told The Morning Shift earlier Friday.
“In my opinion, watching the film, I didn’t see Jalen Carter taking plays off," said Pauline. "So I’m not going to downgrade him for that.”
Throughout Georgia’s 15-game national-championship season last year, Carter dished out a lot of punishment, but took a lot as well.
“A guy like Jalen Carter is in the middle of that line, he’s getting doubled and tripled teamed, he’s getting beat up by blockers," the draft guru said. "You know the human body, especially a guy that young, can only take so much."
Pauline factors all of that in when looking into a prospect, so he advises Mike and Beau to remember the questions about Carter are only questions.
“Well I mean they’re questions," said Pauline. "You’ve gotta be careful with that you know when you say a guy takes plays off.”
Since winning his second national championship with the Bulldogs, Carter has had to face some adversity in his life. There are questions about Carter’s character and now work ethic. Pauline believes the questions about work ethic could simply be a case of punching a guy when he’s down.
Recently, no news has been good news for Carter. A few weeks ago it was announced that Carter was not going to visit any teams outside of the top 10, most likely because he was given a guarantee by one of the top-10 teams. So even with everything that has happened to the former Bulldog over the past few months, it looks like Carter will still end up a top-10 draft pick.
