Less than a week after firing Tom Crean, Georgia’s search for a new head basketball is over and he comes from a familiar foe.
CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein is reporting that Mike White will leave Florida after seven seasons to become the new head coach of the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs decided the hit the reset button following four mediocre seasons under Crean and turn to White for a fresh start. The 2017 SEC Coach of the Year led the Gators to four NCAA Tournament appearances including an Elite Eight appearance in 2017. The Bulldogs, meanwhile, haven’t been to the big dance since 2015.
White took the UGA job amid speculation that he could be out at Florida following a lackluster 2021 season which ended in the first round of the SEC Tournament.
Despite the rocky finish, White compiled a 142-88 during his tenure at Florida. Athens will become White’s third stop in the conference. He spent his playing days at Ole Miss in the late 90s before spending time in Oxford as an assistant from 2004-2011.
Prior to accepting the job in Gainesville to replace Billy Donovan, White led Louisiana Tech to three C-USA titles.
