You don't win a national championship without elite-level talent, and the 2021-22 Georgia Bulldogs were certainly no exception to that rule. Now, on the verge of the NFL Draft, the Dawgs will take center stage once again in a position to tie a pair of draft records.
The record for most players from one program selected in the first round is six and the total for an entire draft—in the seven-round—era is 14.
Round one from Las Vegas takes place on Thursday with several Bulldogs expected to hear their name called by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. Speaking of what happens in Vegas, DE Travon Walker is now the betting favorite to be selected by the Jaguars with the first overall pick.
Defensive tackles Jordan Davis and Devonte Wyatt will most likely come off the board early Thursday while linebackers Nakobe Dean and Quay Walker have also been mocked in the first round by multiple experts throughout the build-up to the draft.
In addition to Walker, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero has S Lewis Cine and WR George Pickens as potential surprise first-round selections. If all six Dawgs go in the first round, it would tie the record set by Miami in 2004 and tied by Alabama in 2021.
As for the record of 14 total selections, Nfl.com has 14 Bulldogs listed on their prospect page ahead of the draft, so it’s not outside the realm of possibility for the program to achieve the mark set by Ohio State also in 2004 and matched by LSU in 2020.
RBs Zamir White and James Cook, LB Channing Tindall, offensive linemen Jamaree Salyer and Justin Shaffer, cornerback Deion Kendrick and punter Jake Camarda round out the list of draft hopefuls for the Dawgs.
