Where does UGA go to replace McGarity?

With the breaking news today out of Athens as Greg McGarity, Athletic director for the University of Georgia, has announced he will be retiring at the end of the year. Dukes & Bell talked about the news and wondered where UGA will go for their next Athletic director.

Carl wondered if Georgia will go outside of the SEC for their next AD.

“The AD at Georgia is leaving, usually when you bring in a new Athletic Director, and first of all this is a very attractive job it’s one of the premier jobs in the country, it pays well, you’re in the SEC they will get all of the qualified candidates that they can handle.” Dukes said “With that said, they will have their own vision and they will have what they want to try to do to better the school especially from an athletic side of things, but it doesn’t mean that anything is going to happen with Kirby or anybody else for that matter. Usually AD’s give themselves a few years to get acclimated before they try to start making those decisions so I don’t think that anything changes immediately but eventually whomever gets this job it’s going to change.”

“I’m curious to see who they bring in, because a lot of times who they decide to go with tells you a lot about their philosophy, do they stay inside the SEC, is there an assistant AD somewhere that they’ve already been looking out, do they go outside the SEC and maybe go to another conference to bring in someone who may have fresh ideas versus always seeing and living in this SEC world.”
