Dawgnation’s Connor Riley joined Dukes & Bell for his weekly appearance on the show and talked about if he thinks Brock Bowers will be able replicate his production from his freshman year?
When asked how much better Bowers could be this season.
“Numbers wise it’s gonna be tough to predict that, as you pointed out thirteen touchdown catches is a school record that’s never been done before, I would even point back to the two playoff games against Michigan and Alabama. Everyone in the country knew that he was Georgia’s best offensive weapon, and first drive of the game against Michigan, I think he finishes with three catches and finishes that drive with a touchdown, and then in the game against Alabama, third and two game on the line Georgia needs a conversion to continue to milk the clock they run a little rpo for him and he walks into the end zone,” Riley said. “And everyone knew that if you’re not gonna hand the ball off there he’s the guy that’s gonna get the football there in that situation, he’s gonna again be a focal point for opposing defenses.”
Riley talked about how teams might cover Bowers this season.
“If you want to double him Georgia is going to play enough two and sometimes even three tight end sets to where they’re gonna get guys like Darnell Washington, Arik Gilbert and Oscar Delp on the field. We’ve spoken at length about the talent in this wide receiver room where if they’re able to stay healthy Kearis Jackson, Arian Smith, Dominic Blaylock are all guys that stretch the field. Brock Bowers again I don’t know if he’s gonna top what he did statistically a year ago but as he gets bigger, as he gets stronger as he goes through an SEC strength and conditioning program more and more I really don’t know how you cover him.”
