Why changes could be headed to college football next season

Is the length of college football games becoming a problem? The top brass in the sport are looking at potential rule changes which could shorten the length of games, Dukes & Bell talked about the potential changes.

Carl talked about the proposed changes.

“High ranking college football leaders have been reviewing four specific changes to the clock rules, two of which are considered non-controversial, one that has garnered some widespread, hmm not sure if that’s gonna work,” Dukes said. “So the non-controversial proposal includes prohibiting consecutive timeouts, for example they’re about to kick game winning field goal, timeout, he’s about to setup and kick the field goal, timeout! I’m fine with that, number two no longer extending a first or third quarter for an untimed down in the quarter which ends on a defensive penalty. The third proposal they are talking about and this is getting some major attention the clock will continue to run after an offense gains a first down except inside of two minutes left in the half. And the last one is and it’s a little bit controversial and again just depends on you the clock will continue to run after an incomplete pass once the ball is spotted for play.”

Dukes talked about whether these rules will matter to most fans.

“Look I think if you’re a Dawg fan, or you’re an SEC fan, or Auburn, pick your school, Alabama it doesn’t, Florida, you’re watching the game and you’re committed and you’re watching the game. Does it help them with the TV dollars and putting these games in these windows? Because believe it or not these networks do believe going into these games that when you talk about a 3:30 window, we got to start our game at 3:30.”
