The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are just days away from kicking off their season as they get set to take on Florida State on Saturday in Dublin. On Monday, head coach, Brent Key joined Steak Shapiro and Sandra Golden on The Steakhouse to discuss the Yellow Jackets season opener as well as the season ahead of them and the new energy and excitement surrounding the program.
“It’s exciting for the fans, it’s exciting for the alumni, the administration,” Key told Shapiro and Golden as he shared what he believed to be “tangible about the momentum” around the Yellow Jackets. “We’re very aware and this team understands that anything positive or negative said to you, it does not impact how we go out and play, it doesn’t impact how we prepare and everything will go away real fast if we don’t go out and do things the right way,” Key added.
As their conversation continued, Shapiro noted that over the past few season, Georgia Tech has proven that they can not only compete with, but also pick up victories over some of the country’s top programs, however they have not been able to consistently put the same product on the field from week to week. “As a program as a whole, the steps that we’ve been involved in, first you learn how not to lose, then you’re learning how to win, and we’re to the point now Steak, it’s how do you win consistently?” Key said in response.
The Yellow Jackets head coach would go on to tell Shapiro and Golden that he believes the past few weeks have proven to be “consistent” as they prepare for their opener and the season and he has been pleased with what he is seeing from his team. “Now it’s time to put it up against an opponent, but the expectation is to go out and prepare the same way,” week to week to be able to “play consistently for 60 minutes,”.
