College basketball is reaching the final stretch of its regular season for most conferences and, for some, a chance to make a final statement with the NCAA Selection Committee.
Both Georgia and Georgia Tech currently find themselves on the outside looking in according to most experts, but that could change over the next few days.
Both schools have chances to win games that could tip things into their favor.
Georgia Tech closes the season with a pair of home games against Syracuse and Duke before traveling to Wake Forest for the season finale.
UGA finds itself facing South Carolina before hosting the top team in the SEC, Alabama.
Georgia Tech head coach Josh Pastner joined John and Hugh (click here for the full interview) and explained why he felt his team could be trending toward a berth in the NCAA tournament.
"I really believe that if we can take care of business before conference tournaments we have a chance to be a lock, but we gotta take care of business," says Pastner. "We are playing the best basketball that we’ve played. We are a team that’s good enough to be in the NCAA tournament, worthy of it, won big games, and got great opportunities in front of us."
For Georgia it might be a different story. While they have a premier game against Alabama, and a win there would be a big statement, they may have to make some noise in the SEC Tournament as well.
Georgia head coach Tom Crean took stock of where his team is at right now in the eyes of the committee.
"We have to keep winning. We’ve had some good wins and when you’re playing well at the end of the year that’s a good sign," says Crean. "People spend so much time thinking about thew what-if scenarios that it’s easy to lost control, and that’s where you have to stay strong."
