It's not uncommon in sports to remember the accomplishments of a successful season. In Georgia Tech's case, their run to win the ACC Tournament, it's a little rarer to remember all the speed bumps that set a team up for that sort of success.
Georgia Tech began the season 0-2 with losses to Georgia State and Mercer amid some unusual practice tactics to keep the team safe through the pandemic. But then a win over then-ranked No. 20 Kentucky got the season back on track as they won seven of the next eight games after the 0-2 start.
Georgia Tech point guard Jose Alvarado explains how the bumpy beginning of the season actually set the team up for greatness this year.
"We really believed (we were good), and the first two games out we lost. It hit us so hard, but we stuck together," explains Alvarado. "If we would have won those two games maybe we never beat Kentucky. Everything happens for a reason, we stuck together the whole time, and that's what made us champions."
