Is Tennessee the Dawgs' biggest threat in the East

John Fricke and Jonathan Williams of Dawgs Daily discuss which SEC East opponent poses the biggest threat to the Georgia Bulldogs

The countdown continues to the start of the 2023 college football season and while many believe the Georgia Bulldogs will be the No. 1 preseason favorite, there is also the question of whether or not they will be challenged in conference play, particularly in the SEC East. On Wednesday, 92-9 The Game’s John Fricke, who was in for Jon Chuckery, spoke with Jonathan Williams of Dawgs Daily to get his opinion as to whether or nor any of Georgia’s conference challengers would pull off what would be considered an upset.

“It’s between South Carolina and Tennessee,” Williams shared as he began with his response to Fricke’s question. As Williams continued with his answer, he shared that he did not believe that Kentucky or Florida would be able to answer the call due to questions surrounding their quarterback situations. However, with South Carolina returning with Spencer Rattler at the QB helm, despite a blowout loss to the Bulldogs last season, the Gamecocks may be able to rally this season to pick up a win over Georgia. Yet, ultimately, Williams shared that his belief is that the Volunteers would have the most likely chance of taking down the two-time defending champs.

“Tennessee probably is the best shot this year,” told Fricke, however he shared his concerns as to whether or not the Volunteers could find the same success as last season with Joe Milton, who transferred from Michigan following the 2020 season, leading the offense. “I don’t know. It’s a big year for Josh Heupel up there to see if he can continue this success, which is what you have to do to really become a powerhouse in college football right now,” Williams added. When circling back to Milton, Williams told Fricke, “I don’t think it’s just a sure thing that he’s going to go in there, light the world up and be a Heisman front runner,” Williams said.
