The Gwinnett County Track and Field Championships came to a close on Monday with the Mill Creek Hawks taking home the girls team championship and the Buford Wolves claiming the boys and the meet featured several new meet records including Buford freshman, Kameron Bethea setting a new meet mark of 10.48 in the boys 100 meter dash.
Bethea's 100 meter race would just be the start to a great day for the ninth grader as he would also help the Wolves' 4x100 meter relay team break their best time in addition to setting a new meet record as they would win in a time of 40.27, the second best time this season behind Langston Hughes, and win the boys 200 meter dash in a time of 21.24, also a meet record.
And while Mill Creek took home the girls team award, the Greater Atlanta Christian Spartans girls would make several statements courtesy of new meet records set by Ava Kitchings in the girls 100 meter dash, as she would win it in a time of 11.57, edging out her teammate Skylar Cunningham, who finished in 11.61, the second best Gwinnett Championship time.
Both Kitchings and Cunningham would also help lead the GAC girls 4x100 meter relay team to a first place finish of 46.46, also a meet record, with Cunningham also setting a new mark in the girls 200 meter dash, winning it in a time of 23.60. Grayson's Daniel Thomas would walk away from the championships sweeping the boys hurdles, winning the 110 meter hurdles in 14.45 and the 300 meter hurdles in a time of 37.72, which would also be a meet record.
