The Padres announced on Monday that RHP Mike Clevinger will undergo Tommy John surgery to repair his UCL while simultaneously announcing a two-year contract for the starting pitcher.

The 29-year-old is expected to miss the entire 2021 season.

The two-year contract Clevinger signed is reportedly for $11.5 million with performance bonuses that could get him to $12 million, per RADIO.COM MLB insider Jon Heyman. The contract wipes out his remaining arbitration years.

Clevinger, who was traded to San Diego from the Cleveland Indians in a nine-player deal during the 2020 season, started four games during the regular season for the Padres, striking out 19 hitters in 19 innings with a 2.84 ERA and a 0.89 WHIP.

Clevinger was diagnosed with right posterior elbow impingement following his final regular season start last year and was removed in the second inning of his lone postseason start in the NLDS due to elbow inflammation.
