The college football transfer portal is open and if there is a program in need of a quarterback, there is far from a shortage of them to choose from as Oregon State’s D.J. Uiagalelei, Duke’s Riley Leonard and Ohio State’s Kyle McCord to Oklahoma’s Dillon Gabriel are among some of the high profile names that are now available and on the search for a new home. And as eyes will be on these players and several others to see where they may land, there are also some paying close attention to Athens, Georgia as there has been some speculation as to whether or not Carson Beck will suit up again for the Bulldogs.
“Can we just assume Carson is going to stay,” 92-9 The Game’s Sandra Golden asked DawgsHQ and On3 Sports recruiting specialist, Rusty Mansell on Tuesday as he joined her and Steak Shapiro on The Steakhouse as the news of now former Georgia quarterback, Brock Vandergriff, broke of him entering the transfer portal. While stating that Beck’s return to Athens has yet to be confirmed, Mansell would share his thoughts on the potential direction for the signal caller.
“Do I think Carson Beck’s decision is made, I do not? If I had to say today, I would probably I’m leaning more to him coming back,” Mansell told Golden and Shapiro and added that Vandergriff’s decision to leave Georgia would have been made regardless of Beck leaving or returning. “He wanted a fresh start,” Mansell said of Vandergriff, explaining that he had plans to graduate from Georgia, which he is on schedule to do by the year’s end, and that Vandergriff and Kirby Smart “had a very good, long conversation” and that they are parting on “good terms”.
