NEW YORK (WFAN.com) -- For the first time since her near-fatal health scare in November, WFAN host and NFL Network reporter Kim Jones spoke publicly about her harrowing experience.
On Super Bowl Radio Row in Atlanta, Jones revealed to Mike Francesa that she had an aortic dissection.
"My neck got hot on both sides," she said. "I was at the Redskins (practice facility), and all of a sudden ... I knew it was something out of the ordinary.
"It was an aortic dissection where the layers of your aorta seperate, and that leaves the aorta subject to rupture, which as great as you are Mike, you and I aren't here if my aorta ruptures because I'm nowhere."
After leaving a Washington, D.C., area hospital at the end of November, Jones posted a video on Instagram saying she had "almost died" a week earlier.
Jones spent two weeks at the Inova Heart and Vascular Institute in Fairfax, Virginia, while recovering from surgery.
"I was at practice that day. It was a Thursday," Jones told Francesa. "I went in the locker room. I had great stuff that day. ... There are many, many heroes (from that day). The Redskins started (the care) off. Dr. West, their team physician, I will always be grateful to her. Tony Wiley in PR. Daniel Snyder's wife came to visit me in the hospital.
"It's a wonderful story, and my luck has continued. But I was incredibly lucky."
Jones confirmed her health situation could have very well taken her life.
"I was told by a cardiologist -- I have a cardiologist and I have my surgeons -- one of them told me 80 percent don't make it to the hospital," Jones said.
Jones has recovered and is working at the Super Bowl, telling Francesa she "feels great."
