With their fifth and sixth straight wins coming on Tuesday night, the Norcross Blue Devils continue to keep momentum behind them as they near the end of the regular season and get set for the Georgia High School Association 6A Region 7 tournament next week.
Hosting Parkview and Centennial on a night they celebrated their four senior players, the Blue Devils improved to 26-12 on the season, and most importantly, 7-0 in the region standings, securing the number one seed for the region tournament and earning a first round bye.
"We've been playing really well lately," Norcross head coach, Jeff Cerneka, said of his team, who has won 16 of their last 20 matches. "We're really hitting our stride and picking up our play lately," Cerneka said as he praised the Blue Devils efforts over the past few weeks which helped them end their region play unbeaten.
"I feel good about where we're at, I feel good about how we're playing and the most important thing is my kids have a lot of confidence and they're playing with some confidence and I think it's showing on the floor. We learned how to win," Cerneka said of noting how the challenge of a tough schedule early on helped prepare the Blue Devils for a strong finish to the regular season, especially with the senior night victories.
"These seniors are special, all of them are," Cerneka said of Sofia Guerrero-Wilson, Zoe Felder, Ellie Ruth Blue and Grayson Taylor, who set a Norcross career digs record Tuesday with 1,349. "They've all been in the program for four years, three of them have been starters for three years and I've been able to see their growth, not just as players but as young adults," Cerneka said of the four seniors.
"I'm just proud of who they've become," Cerneka said, praising the Blue Devils seniors for how hard they worked throughout their careers at Norcross.
