Efficiency is the name of the game for UGA

Can the Dawgs win on efficiency alone? No. Good thing they have the QB and defense for the job...

The University of Georgia is changing the narrative of what it means to be the best team in college football. If you look back at the last few years, the top teams in football have featured elite offensive units. While this Georgia team is effective on that side of the ball, it's not exactly elite - they rank just outside of the top 10 in points per game and 46th in terms of total yards per game. The guys discussed this morning on College Football Gametime.

Georgia has been very effective at getting all they can out of this unit.

"Only McCall at Coastal Carolina gets more yards per completion in the country than Stetson Bennett does," says Jon Chuckery. "Bennett averages 16.75 yards per completion." Considering the biggest knock against him coming into this season was his inability to throw the deep ball, that's pretty darn effective. While they don't throw it often, they get a lot out of the position when they do and they chew up a lot of yards.

This notion flies directly in the face of those teams in the previous few years. The likes of Mac Jones, Joe Burrow, and Trevor Lawrence really seemed to move the needle in ways we had never seen before.

This is a very efficient brand of football that Georgia plays, but not in the game manager sense of the word. When they ask Bennett to throw the football, he gets it done. He can be flashy, he can be conservative. He can make the deep throw, or he can screen a team to death. He sees a job and he does it.

The lingering question in everyone's minds is what does this team do when he has to win the game. Not to say that he can't do that job, we just haven't seen him in that situation in 2021. "Go look at the history of the playoffs," says Jon. "Your quarterback's gotta help you win if you're going to win the championship."
