Meet the new "Fastest Man" in Georgia

The correlation between football players, especially wide receivers, and track and field is well documented. Many football players find their ways on to a track, as the old saying goes, "You can't coach speed." Maurice Gleaton Jr., of Langston Hughes High School, joins that list but also added another title to his resume. "Fastest Man in Georgia."

The Sophomore ran a 10.16 in the 100M dash on Saturday's 6A Sectionals, which broke the record for fastest 100M dash in the state of Georgia's history. The previous record was held by Banneker High School's Ryan Clark with a 10.26 which was set back in 2016.

Gleaton Jr. edged out Alexander High School's Alex Singleton, who ran a 10.20. The 5'10" speedster is also a wide receiver for Langston Hughes, and holds times of 20.52 in the 200M and 48.04 in the 400M.

Gleaton and Singleton will both be back in action next weekend competing for the 6A Championship.
