The Los Angeles Police Department officers worked with U.S. Marshals to track down Juan Tejedor Baron, 23, and Scott Hannon, 34, around 4 p.m. local time.

Federal police said Baron had stowed away under a bench seat near the bathroom at the back of a Greyhound bus in Anaheim headed to Mexico. He had pulled a metal plate black to hide, police said. LAPD officers arrested Hannon, the second suspect, near Manchester Blvd. and Oak St. in Inglewood.

Police in Hawaii visited a home Monday morning to follow up on a missing person’s report. Detectives returned that afternoon and spoke with Baron, who claimed to live at the house, they said.

“It didn’t appear suspicious at that time,” Lt. Deena Thoemmes told KHON2 News. “Missing persons detectives notified and responded to the scene to continue the investigation.”

HPD detectives said they spotted a tub filled with concrete mix during their search, and a found, pungent odor emanating from it prompted them to dig deeper.

“The smell of the decomposition was when we started to chip away at the tub,” Thoemmes told the news station.

Police said by the time they uncovered the body, Baron and Hannon had taken off. They were reportedly last seen in Waikiki Tuesday at 1 a.m. Authorities said they alerted airports and police agencies nationwide.

Honolulu investigators believe Baron was romantically and intimately involved with the deceased 73-year old. However, authorities have not identified the man.

Officers booked both suspects at the Metropolitan Detention Center. Both are believed to be from outside Hawaii.
