On Friday, Apple dropped the iPhone 17, the 17 Pro, the 17 Pro Max, and the iPhone Air.

KNX News’ Craig Fiegener spoke with Macworld’s Michael Simon about what consumers can expect from these new phones.

“All of the phones now have an 18 megapixel front camera,” he said. “So when you're taking selfies, they'll be a lot sharper.”

The iPhone Air, he said, is getting a lot of attention because it’s the “thinnest iPhone Apple has ever made,” but that’s all consumers are getting.

“The battery is not bad, but also not as good as the 17 and the 17 Pro,” he said. “The screen is a little bit smaller than the iPhone Plus that it replaces. So you're giving them some stuff, and you're also getting one camera instead of two.”

As for whether people should rush to their closest Apple store or wait it out, Simon said it depends.

“I think if you have a 16, you're OK,” he said. “ If you have a 15 now, [it] depends on what you want. On the standard models, you don't get Apple Intelligence, so if you want to upgrade to one of these phones, you will. The base phone, if you have a 15 or a 16, you don't get that better screen.”

The iPhone Air starts at $999, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max starts at $1,199 and goes up to $2,000. The iPhone 17 Pro starts at $1,099 and goes up to $1,499. The iPhone 17 starts at $799 and goes up to $1,000.

Simon also said there is a rumor that Apple could be releasing a foldable iPhone next year and that it could be worth waiting for.
