As we give thanks to our loved ones and our neighborhood heroes, KNX News spotlights a special group from Orange County that is making a big difference: the Surfside Quilters Guild.
With every stitch and every cut, members of the Surfside Quilters Guild are putting love into every quilt they make, and it's not just for fun or for family; they donate hundreds every year.
Linda Chiu tells Heroes Host Heather Jordan that the lap-size quilts made with care are big enough to be a warm hug for someone who needs one.
"Our philanthropy group donates over 400 quilts a year to baby showers at the Marines. They go to youth shelters, the Children's Hospital and Ronald McDonald House, the local Meals on Wheels groups, and the Veterans Hospital," Chiu said.
The guild is also raising money to give to a past KNX Hero who provides suitcases and clothing for foster kids ahead of the winter holiday.
Program Chair Pam Hadfield, who helps lead roughly 200 members based in Dana Point, said, "A lot of people think that quilting is a lost art. So I'm really excited that you are highlighting quilters because there's way more quilters out there than what you might think."
The team encourages anyone to join one of their monthly meetings where new and seasoned quilters can come together, attend workshops, and listen to experts speak.
Pam Hadfield, Linda Chiu, and the Surfside Quilters Guild are our KNX Heroes of the Week!
