LOS ANGELES (KNX) — Firefighters were battling a blaze at a commercial building in downtown Los Angeles on Thursday morning. The fire was reported at a one-story structure located at 721 South Ceres Avenue shortly before 9 a.m.
More than 90 firefighters were on the scene to contain the flames and heavy smoke.
“All firefighters are exiting the structure and coming down off the roof. LAFD Hazardous Materials Squad is evaluating a possible oxygen tank exposed to the fire,” a 9 a.m. LAFD alert read.
By 9:20 a.m., firefighters had extinguished the blaze. No injuries were reported. It was not disclosed what started the fire or what kind of business occupied the building. LAFD arson investigators were on the scene; however, this is considered general protocol for major fires.
Drivers have been urged to avoid the area of East 7th Street at Ceres Avenue due to street closures.
