It was supposed to open three years ago. On Monday, the Automated People Mover at LAX began testing.
The transit line connects the car rental facility to the new Metro station and the terminals. KNX News’ Jon Baird reported that the testing is expected to take a couple of months, so officials can fix any glitches before the public starts climbing aboard.
Baird spoke with several travelers who say they’re on board with trying out the People Mover.
“It can't be any worse than what it already is,” one man said. “So whatever improvements they can make, we're all open to it because right now it's a mess.”
“We do need to get rid of some of the cars, the traffic, ”a traveler named Lisa Marie said. “L.A. has just crazy traffic and certainly...reducing the carbon footprint.”
“It would be convenient,” another man said. “Potentially, it could be convenient.”
LAX officials have not yet announced a formal opening date for the public.
