The Los Angeles County Animal Control took in more than 100 stray dogs over the Fourth of July weekend.

“The facility that we're at right now, which is the Downey Animal Care Center, took in approximately 23 dogs,” Chris Valles with the L.A. County Animal Care and Control told KNX News’ Emily Valdez.

He said a majority of animals do go home.

“We have already seen owners come reclaim their pets, and a lot of that has to do with identification,” he said.

He added that there is a mandatory 72-hour hold on the dogs before they go on the website.

Claudia Ramirez, who lives in South Gate, went to the Downey Animal Shelter to find Yugi, her Chihuahua mix who ran away on the Fourth of July after someone left the gate open.

“I really wish I [could] find my dog,” she told KNX News’ Emily Valdez.

Those missing a pet can go to the city and county shelter websites. They post photos of all the animals taken in and they encourage people to come down and look in person as well.
